A psychologist meets a musician. The musician says… 🎷
“… let’s jam!”
As a teenager, I practiced almost every day after school: flute or saxophone lessons, ensemble or big band rehearsals, choir practice, or music theory and ear-training course. It’s no secret that practice is every musician’s discipline.
My first professional practice as a psychologist began as an intern and a freelance trainer. I assisted in leadership trainings and workshops, and soon I was invited to design and lead my own.
My very first session that wasn’t just for friends or fellow students? A training on quick-wittedness – not kidding 😁 I felt proud. But it didn’t take long to see that teaching methods, hacks, or tricks wasn’t what fulfilled me. It worked – but it stayed on the surface. What pulled me in was what sat underneath: how people think, decide, feel, hesitate, protect themselves, grow.
That’s where I wanted to work.
Today, I do exactly that by combining these experiences in my coaching practice.
A professional coaching practice is very concrete: it’s about creating clear agreements, being present, building trust, listening closely, and asking questions that help people see what they couldn’t see before. And it’s about turning insight into action – tracking progress, co-designing next steps, and adapting in the moment to what’s actually happening.
Both the psychologist and the musician help me with that.
As a certified coach and business coach, I get to jam – ehm: work – with people from all over the world. Since I collaborate with many different personalities and team compositions, I now work with what’s really going on beneath the surface.
And what surprises me again and again:
No matter the role or context – whether someone works alone, in a small team, or in a large organization – deep down, we all struggle with similar questions!
Now, after my inner psychologist and musician have had their jam session, it’s time for the next set. When the coach steps in, everything flows differently… Next up: getting creative!
